Clean, friendly, economical hostal very near the airport - like, you can see the planes from the street. {2 stars}

Someone from ST sent me the link to this hostal in the past and I finally used it this year. We drove into Madrid (Barajas) mid-day, only to stay one night so that two of our travel companions could catch their flight home the next day.

It is in a small, newer building, purpose built as a hotel, uninspiring but very clean, functional, economical. Be aware that there is no elevator for getting luggage up either one or two flights of stairs.

The stellar point is that it has free shuttle service to and from all the terminals. We left our rental car parked on the street and took advantage of the shuttle to deliver our friends to the airport.

A short walk through the streets gets you to the main plaza of what was once the village of Barajas. There are several bars, cafeterias, internet stores around the plaza. A little longer walk gets you to the Barajas metro station, either one stop to the terminals inside the airport or in the other direction, for only 1 euro, to the middle of Madrid, metro station, Nuevos Ministerios to be exact. Along the way, you can connect to other lines on your same ticket.

This hostal served our purposes perfectly. I would stay here again, short term, for easy access the airport and the metro into Madrid.
