1bed/1.5bath apartment in Seville, Andalusia

When

December 2006, 2 weeks

Location

Located in Santa Cruz area of Seville - perfect for walking to everything. Fantastic location and we will stay in same area again.

Nearby Amenities

Many many restaurants and cafes minutes away. Several supermarkets about 10 minutes walk. We did have a car as we were looking for somewhere to live in Sevilla province but it was an awful nuisance. Despite the agency's assurances, parking near the apartment was near impossible and the drive there a nightmare along very narrow streets. We paid for parking five minutes walk away.

The House/Apartment

Old building in quite good shape. It is located in a quiet area of Santa Cruz -the only real noise was church bells and New Years Eve festivities. Our apartment was on the top floor and I think there are two apartments per floor of differing sizes - and mostly rented by this agency I think.

Garden

The terrace is lovely and quite large. Private but if people were at the terrace next door you could hear them of course. Terrace is off the bedroom which makes it slightly less usable. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was OK - very basic and not especially comfortable. Also not very much of it. Clean enough - just.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Double bed OK - it had not been made up which always irritates me. The bedroom is not large but there is a large built in wardrobe which enabled us to put everything away - including suitcases - a real bonus. The apartment is advertised as two bathrooms which is a bit of a stretch. The bathroom upstairs off the bedroom has a shower (no bath), basin and toilet. The main problem is that due to a design fault the bathroom floor remains wet all day from the shower which was very annoying. The bathroom downstairs is really just a toilet and hand basin and is under the stairs so has serious head room issues - my husband almost concussed himself several times.

Kitchen

We knew we were getting a kitchenette so no real surprises. We really only made breakfast and one simple dinner and any more would have been difficult but for our purposes was fine.

Problems or Bonuses

The main surprise was just how small it was - going on the size (80m2 I think)we expected much bigger and can only assume the terrace was counted in the sizing. The furniture was very basic. The parking situation was misrepresented and the bathroom problem was annoying. The bonus was the location, which was fabulous and the terrace which in warmer weather would have been great. Although there is a sofa bed, the fact that there is no door to the bedroom - is just at top of stairs, and the only shower is in the bathroom off the bedroom the apartment would not really be suitable for more than a couple - or perhaps a child sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency and the person we dealt with were excellent and spoke good English. The apartment is very reasonably priced -we paid about €400 per week. I don't think the reality of the apartment matched what we saw on the website - it was much smaller, really only had one bathroom etc.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would probably not stay there again and would spend more to stay somewhere a bit nicer. We now live in Spain so will be visiting Seville but not for long stays. In terms of recommending to others - the location is fantastic and the agency good to deal with. For shorter stays or stays in warmer weather it is excellent value.

Things to do in this area

Most of what Seville has to offer is all within walking distance of the apartment. The location is brilliant.
