2bed/1bath apartment in Granada, Andalusia

When

July 2007, 2 nights

Location

The apartment is located in Albayzin which is the oldest part of Granada and very charming. Lost of very narrow cobbled streets. Quite a maze in some respects. The area is great for all sites and restaurants and there are views of the Alhambra from much of Albayzin.

Nearby Amenities

We could walk to everything. Nearest small supermarket less than five minutes away. Cafes and restaurants - many within five minutes walk.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is in an old but restored listed building. There are three apartments for rental in the building and a total of five or six I guess. The manager lives on the premises. The apartment we rented is on the top floor (of three)- open plan living, dining, kitchen. Main bedroom with double bed and second bedroom with two singles. The main bedroom has a huge bath in it which took up a rather silly amount of space and we couldn't imagine using - maybe after a days skiing perhaps. One small but functional bathroom.

There is an air conditioner in the living room and one in the main bedroom but not in the second bedroom.

You can view the apartment directly: Albayzin Apartment.

Garden

There is a small, private rooftop terrace, which is accessed via stairs from the living room in the apartment. The terrace has views of the Alhambra. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All furniture was in good shape and the apartment was quite clean, although showing some signs of wear and tear. There were enough chairs for all in living and dining area. All was quite comfortable for a short stay. Although the apartment sleeps four (there were three of us) I think for a longer stay four people may find the living-dining area somewhat small.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds were fine. Main bedroom quite small due to the huge bath it it. The bathroom clean and small but worked fine.

Kitchen

We did no cooking. There appeared to be enough pans and dishes etc. A full size fridge. The kitchen/dining area is one relatively small space and perhaps trying to cook and serve a meal for four may be a bit cramped.

Problems or Bonuses

All was pretty much to expectations although the apartment had looked bigger in the photos. The rooftop terrace was smaller than expected which was OK but the air conditioning vents are up there, which on a hot July evening is not pleasant. No air conditioning in the second bedroom was a bit of a disappointment. We have found that many apartments advertise air conditioning but in fact it is restricted to only one or two rooms. The manager who lives on site, and is British is extremely friendly and helpful.

The real bonus with this apartment - and the others in the building - is the location, which is fabulous. And the professionalism and friendliness of the owner and the manager.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner was very responsive via e-mail and a pleasure to deal with. The manager great in person and very helpful. We paid €135 per night.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes we would stay at the apartment again. The location is fantastic and the owner and manager great.

Things to do in this area

Visited the Alhambra, ate out, walked around and enjoyed Granada.
