3bed/2bath apartment in Salamanca, Castile and Leon WhenOctober 2011, 4 days LocationThe location of this rental is just outside the old center of Salamanca, close to the train station. It is in a private apartment building with several other apartments lived in by residents. The area worked fine for us. Nearby AmenitiesThere are many grocery stores, bars and restaurants in the area, including a big Carrefour at the train station, just a five minute walk away. The only thing I could not find was a local wine shop. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is in a relatively new building - not historical. It was quiet, though there was some street noise (good windows blocked this out) and the sounds of construction work during the day. There is one bedroom I would not want to stay in as it was close to the front door and there is an elevator bell that was pretty loud. GardenThere is a private balcony looking out over the street, and no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThere was good quality, comfortable furniture throughout and the place was spotlessly clean. Plenty of chairs, comfy couch, flat screen TV, good working WiFi - all good. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were fine with comfortable beds. My bedroom had a glass door, which was kind of weird. My mothers was larger and had its own TV in there. One bathroom had a tub, and was very luxurious. Plenty of towels and they even had little candies in there. KitchenThe kitchen was great. Very clean, nice serving ware, quality appliances. We only cooked one dinner there, but had everything we needed to do it. Problems or BonusesWe were suppose to rent another apartment from this company, but there was a water issue and we got changed to this apartment at the last minute. The owner, Gemma, was so worried we would not be happy! This one was a little farther from the old center (about a 15 minute walk instead of five) but it was close to the train station and where we dropped off our rental car (only five minutes walk) so it worked out great for us. And this apartment was bigger than the other. Agency and Representatives (and price)Gemma and Luis (who met us onsite and at the end of the stay) do not speak English, but with just a little Spanish we were able to communicate and Gemma writes emails in English with the help of some online translation service. They both seem very eager to please and the apartment had a lot of helpful brochures and books. We only paid €65 a night - a real bargain - but I think the normal price may be more like €75 a night. Still a bargain. I searched and searched for an apartment rental in Salamanca, and am very happy I found this company! Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend the agency without hesitation. We found the people in Salamanca so friendly and welcoming, and Gemma and Luis are no exception. Things to do in this areaWe walked to the center every day to the old part of town - the wonderful Plaza Mayor, the old university, the cathedrals, the Roman bridge, tapas in our favorite places, and so much more. Salamanca is incredible. We loved it there. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
