Locarno: Albergo Reber au Lac

Locarno, 4 stars

Reviewed by: Pauline from NM (moderators), review #256

When: May 1997

Expensive hotel on Lake Maggiore with balconies looking out to the lake.

Very expensive, but on this trip the less expensive hotels were booked. On the map it looks like you do not have to drive through Locarno to get to the hotel, but none of the streets went through, so we had to drive into Locarno and then go out along the lake. A wonderful old hotel. Our room was smaller than I had pictured, but the balcony was bigger and only 150' from the lake. We were on the second floor. In the morning we had breakfast on our balcony.

The furniture was sort of old world tacky, but the balcony and view were fabulous. There are other less expensive 3 star hotels on this same street which would also have views of the lake.

In 1997, 1 night lake front room, 400 CHF ($284.91).
