Fantastic stay at 5 star hotel in Lucerne.
The Grand National Hotel, Lucerne was the big splurge for our vacation. It is a 5 star hotel on Lake Lucerne, about a 10 minute walk to the historic section. The hotel is first class in service and accommodation.
We had a 2 person, lake view room. It was 387CHF/night. The room itself was very large. King bed (twins pushed together), with plenty of room on both sides of the bed to walk around (guessing 8-10 feet on the one side, 6 feet on the other). At the foot of the bed, we had 2 chairs and a table. Very large bureau to keep clothes in, as well as a dresser.
We had a small balcony overlooking the lake with 2 chairs and a table. The view was outstanding. We bought wine from the wine store across the street and would sit on the balcony looking at either the mountains or the historic area. That was nice and relaxing.
The bathroom was just huge. Two person sink. Bathtub (man, was that nice after all the shower stalls) with shower. Just so much space. I'd say the bathroom was about 12 ft x 12 ft. It was as big as some of the hotels we had been in before.
Flooring was all marble. Turn down service in the evening. Robes/slippers provided. Wonderful towels.
Room service was outrageously expensive. 14CHF for a single coffee and a single tea.
The hotel was everything we had thought it would be. And, then some. Staff was tremendously helpful with anything we asked about and they all spoke fluent English. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, if I could afford it.
