We spent two nights at this hotel during our 100-mile walk in the Swiss Alps. The hotel is very conveniently located in this attractive village. It was a five minute walk from the train/bus station and there are many shops and eating places just a few minutes away. On our "day off," we walked about 15 minutes to the chair lift to ride up the mountain and then another short walk to the Oeschinensee, a beautiful mountain lake. You could easily spend a couple of days in this area, especially if you enjoy hiking. This is a three star hotel, very comfortable and appealing. There is an elevator. We had a wonderful family room -- actually a two room suite in a corner of the building. We had a living room with a sofa bed and a separate bedroom, with balconies off both rooms. My husband and daughter were sitting out on the balcony and I closed the door because I was cold. Not long after I left the room to go downstairs and use the internet, not realizing I had locked them out on the porch! They had to get the attention of another hiker in a nearby room, who then came to get me so we could rescue them. The restaurant here was really the best of all that we visited on our 14 night walking trip through the Swiss Alps... and we ate at some very good places. Our walking trip package included the first night half-board (dinner included, though a set meal). We enjoyed that meal so much that we decided to eat at the hotel the second night too. Our meal was wonderful. The hotel owners (a married couple) both speak English very well. They are very helpful and service oriented. He even carried our bags up to our room for us. They have many extras that make this a really enjoyable place to stay -- a guest lounge with a library of books to borrow from, an internet station (with a small fee), a free laundry room (much appreciated after more than a week of hiking), and a sauna and some other spa facilities. They also were concerned and helpful the next morning as we tried to decide whether to take our path over the mountain where it was very likely snowing... although it was August. (We went an alternate way instead.) I highly recommend this hotel and also the village of Kandersteg-- try to stay longer than we did!
