> SlowTrav > Switzerland > Instructions for Visitors Other NotesA few extra notes about Switzerland. Lights in HallwaysYou will find many automatic lights in apartment hallways or laundry rooms. Some work by going on when you push the switch and then automatically going off 5 minutes later. Others sense movement and turn on when someone comes into the room. ToiletsIn Switzerland, "green" is "white" - on restroom doors! You know how when you turn the knob on a bathroom door it shows red for occupied? And when it is unoccupied, it shows green? Well, in Switzerland, when it is unoccupied, it shows white (sometimes green is used). Red and white - like the colors of the flags. (This is also true in Germany.) Public toilets are usually in good shape and readily available. In the train stations, you may need to pay with a 1/2 or a 1 CHF coin. You hardly ever find toilets with no toilet paper. There will be public restrooms at all mountain rides. |
