2bed/1bath apartment in Meiringen, Berner Oberland

When

July 2006, 5 days

Location

The rental was part of a house that was on the outskirts of Meiringen, a small town. The house was next to a commercial building on one side, and otherwise surrounded by fields.

Nearby Amenities

It was a five to seven minute walk to the nearest grocery store or restaurant. seven to nine minutes to the bakery.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was part of a house, a swiss chalet-style home that was very peaceful and quiet. The loudest noise was the nearby mountain waterfall.

Garden

There was a nice sitting area outside that was private, but we had a problem with flies, so we couldn't really use it.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was spotless and in excellent condition. There was a nice kitchen table with plenty of seating.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds were very comfortable with down comforters and pillows. The bathroom was remodeled and in excellent condition. The shower head was adjustable in height and was able to be attached to the wall (not always the case).

Kitchen

Full kitchen with stove/oven/refrigerator/coffee maker. There was a lot of space for cooking.

Problems or Bonuses

The flies were a little bit of a problem, as it is not common in Switzerland to have window screens. We had a few here and there. The apartment was otherwise extremely pleasant.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The tourist office was wonderful and very helpful. We paid 85 Swiss francs/night for the apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would recommend this place. The landlady was wonderful; she did our laundry for no charge and gave our son a gift of a crystal when we left. Meiringen is a very central location to a lot of areas in the Bernese Oberland, and is not too touristy.

Things to do in this area

There are several good restaurants in town and some very cute souvenir/craft shops. There is a cable car in Meiringen that goes up the mountain to excellent hiking.
