Review 231: Chalets Adlerhorst & Berghof, Chalet Adlerhorst
2bed/1bath apartment in Grindelwald, Berner Oberland
July 1997, 1 week
In 1997, we drove to Grindelwald and found a vacation rental through the tourist office. They gave us a few listings and we looked at a couple and chose this one. It was more expensive than we usually pay because it was 2 bedrooms.
A ground floor apartment in a house on the outskirts of Grindelwald. New (built in 1992), bright and cheerful, spotlessly clean, carpeted, but low berber style carpets with oriental carpets on top, two leather couches in living room, modern kitchen with electric stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, satellite TV with CNN, NBC, BBC world, short-wave radio and cassette player, phone. Deep tub. 2 bedrooms, with down pillows and quilts. Only bad thing is sheets and (fluffy, new) towels smell of fabric softener. We aired out the bedroom to get rid of softener smell.
French doors from living room go to small terrace with a view of the valley, Grindelwald and the Eiger. Stunning. The walls on this house are 17" thick; the windows double glazed with almost an inch on air space in between.
Price: We paid 150 CHF per day, plus 90 CHF cleaning, 57.60 CHF tax (9 days at 6.40).
As of 2002, on their web site they have more apartments for rent. The owners of this apartment lived in the Chalet above but were not home often because they ran a hotel in a nearby mountain village.
