Vacation rentals in Switzerland (chalets, farms, apartments)
Review 2955: Haus Lydia, Apartment 2
1bed/1bath apartment near Appenzell, Other
July 2007, 7 days
This is a bed & breakfast with four rooms plus two apartments. We rented Apartment 2 (second floor).
It is about 15-30 minute walk to the center of Appenzell; less than 5 minutes by car. We really liked this area. We didn't mind the walk. We came by train, Hirschberg station - less than 5 minutes away.
We walked into Appenzell for groceries & shopping. There is really no commerce in the immediate vicinity; closest grocery shop is about a 15 minute walk.
The owners raised their five sons in this house. It is well-kept, very quiet and with beautiful view.
Lydia keeps a beautiful garden. There is a picnic table and barbecue grill. Unfortunately, it rained for most of our stay but we were happy to stay in our apartment with the view.
The apartment is very clean with decent and sufficient furniture. The house has some very nice features like wood carving and marquetry.
The bedroom is big with two twin beds pushed together (typical in Switzerland) and two big comfortable chairs and coffee table (not typical but a bonus). There is plenty of closet space. The beds were comfortable; the pillows were huge but very soft (also typical).
The bathroom is very clean - the shower curtain was newly washed (washing machine) for our stay.
The kitchen is very pleasant and I enjoyed cooking all our meals in the apartment. There were plenty of dishes, sufficient pots.
Problems or Bonuses
The visitor card that came with our stay for week: free train/bus rides in the area including St-Gallen, free museum entry, free entry to swimming pool/sports center, free gondola rides up to the mountain, PubliCar service for 3 CHP/person, etc. It's great value especially when it comes free with the accommodations.
Also, there is a computer with Internet connection and laser printer for guest use - for 3 CHP per day!! What a great value.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Lydia is very friendly and very helpful. She speaks very good English. She even translated for us when we needed to communicate to someone who spoke no English.
The price for the week is very reasonable as stated in their website.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We definitely recommend this B&B/apartments. We liked this apartment a lot: clean, with some very nice features, comfortable, beautiful view, beautiful window boxes of pink geraniums. We can live year round in this apartment.
We would go back to stay here again.
Things to do in this area
Appenzell is small but very interesting town. We did day trips to Zurich and St-Gallen from here. We also visited other smaller villages. We enjoyed all our meals and drinks in the apartment.
