Review 2962: Owner, Chesa Aquileja - 1st floor apartment

Review by Jing from CA

3bed/2bath apartment in Pontresina, Graubunden

June 2007, 7 nights

This apartment is in the town of Pontresina, first floor in the Chesa Aquileja - a four-story apartment building. The apartment has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and Pontresina, very close to the Church of St Mary and the 13th century Spaniola Tower.

Nearby Amenities

Pontresina has lots of shops, Coop for groceries, bakeries, restaurants, hotels and great bus service. The apartment is uphill from the main road. We took the taxi from train station because of luggage (we were glad we did) but took the bus back to the train station with no problem.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is on the first floor of a well-kept apartment building with about 12 units. There are a few steps to get to the main door, half a flight to the 1st floor and half a flight to the ground floor. The building has an elevator but access is either from the ground floor or first floor, so we never used it.

The apartment has a balcony with beautiful views, table and chairs. The view, however, will be partially obscured when the construction of a new apartment building next door is completed.

There is also a shared yard with picnic table & grill and also with beautiful views.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

This a very clean, lovely vacation home of the German owners and beautifully furnished (no IKEA here) - leather couch, flat screen TV with English channels, working fireplace (though we didn't use it), lots of wood work, carved furniture & hardwood floors.

There are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed (two twin mattresses together). The other bedrooms: one with two separate twin beds, one with bunk beds. Lots of storage in all the rooms

The two bathrooms are bigger than most - one with a bath tub, the other with a walk-in shower. There is a washing machine in one of the bathrooms.

The kitchen is wonderful - great set-up, well-equipped and well-stocked, a dream kitchen. I enjoyed cooking all our meals there.

Problems or Bonuses

This apartment exceeded our expectations; it's a beautiful, comfortable home.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We reserved this apartment through the tourist office website. The German owners contacted us directly by email through their daughter who spoke English. They are a pleasure to deal with.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, yes, yes. We can live here permanently the way it is.

Things to do in this area

There are plenty of things to do in this area - hiking up in the mountains or down in the valleys or around the lakes, free concerts each day at 11am either at the park or Protestant church, with various special events, and a good base by car or easy access by bus or train.
