4bed/2.5bath apartment in Grindelwald, Berner Oberland

When

June 2007, 2 weeks

Location

The location of the vacation rental is in Grindelwald, Switzerland, which is outside of Interlaken. The apartment is in a chalet complex and very private. The location is convenient for walking into the small town and the mountain views are incredible. It is hard to beat Grindelwald for a vacation destination.

Nearby Amenities

It is possible to walk to shops and restaurants within five minutes. There are well stocked groceries, drug stores, news stands. Everything you might need.

The House/Apartment

The building is quite new and in perfect shape. It is very quiet and relaxing. There are three levels to the chalet with underneath parking. An elevator is available from the garage. There are perhaps five or six apartments in the building.

Garden

Across the front of our apartment is a large terrace well furnished for lounging or outside dining. It was not shared. There is no pool on this property but there is a large indoor community pool in town and also an outdoor pool and both are available to tourists.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

One of the attractions of this rental was the fact that it was well furnished with plenty of seating in the living area plus a dining table with chairs for eight guests. Everything is new and of very high quality. The apartment was spotless. We were completely comfortable there - a group of seven. Plenty of room for everyone.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds are comfortable and provided with very good linen and pillows. The 2-1/2 bathrooms are modern and well equipped.

Kitchen

The kitchen is compact but easy to work in. It has been fitted with every imaginable pot, pan and utensil. If I were to move in there I don't think there would be anything to buy. As a frequent renter of chalets this kitchen is the most complete I have ever seen. Of course there is a dishwasher. We did cook full meals almost every night of our stay there and it worked well.

Problems or Bonuses

One unexpected bonus was the laundry room, which had the usual washer, dryer plus hanging lines and was only for the use of Chalet Perle. Wonderful - especially with seven people.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked the chalet through the U.S. Agency Drawbridge to Europe. We have used this agency on a prior trip and find them very helpful with excellent listings. Even though we have been to Grindelwald many times it was much easier to book the chalet through them. In Grindelwald the local agency was quite accommodating and of course they speak English. All of the published information about the rental was accurate - perhaps a little understated - in no way exaggerated.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

All of us who stayed at Chalet Perle are ready to return at the first opportunity.

We have never seen a rental so thoughtfully furnished and equipped - right down to a pair of binoculars for mountain viewing.

Things to do in this area

There are various cable car rides into the mountains and to other Swiss towns. Scenic bus rides are available. Hiking or strolling and enjoying the views is a daily pleasure. Side trips are easy to make such as to Interlaken, Thun, Brienz, and Bern. From Interlaken (about a 20 minute drive) you can ride the marvelous Swiss passenger boats on Lake Thun or Lake Brienz. Paragliding is very popular if you are so inclined. Nearby is Lauterbrunnen where you can take a cable car to Murren etc. All delightful excursions. You will run out of time before you take advantage of all the possibilities.
