> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1004: Cycling in Belgium and The NetherlandsBy Linda Hagstrom from PA, Fall 2005 Page 2 of 7: Brussels to Antwerp
Our barge Sunday morning, the crew handed our bikes off the barge and we set out for Antwerp. We almost always cycled beside a body of water on this trip - a canal or a lake or a river. Everywhere we went it was flat, which I loved. We were mostly on bike paths, less frequently on bike lanes beside roads. This day we cycled by canals and locks and through woods and fields. It was delightful. We stopped to eat the lunches we had packed on board from the spread the crew put out after breakfast. Toward late afternoon we came to Antwerp and cycled right through the city on bike lanes. We were all a little nervous to be cycling in the city, and it was lucky it was a quiet Sunday afternoon. That night after dinner we walked to the historic district and saw the sights and had our nightly bar stop.
