Castle We rode along canals, crossed rivers and lakes on ferries and enjoyed the wonderful biking. Every day we would stop along the way in a small, historic town and have time to shop a little, walk around and have a snack. Some of the towns were walled and all were charming. The Dutch people were very nice. One time we stopped so we could see a giant sand dune that is in the middle of the country. There were lots of the old-fashioned windmills everyone loves. Once we stopped to watch and talk to two workmen who were restoring one. They were working on the mechanism that moves the water. I love thatch-roofed houses and we saw many. Some of the old windmills even had thatched roofs. One day we detoured to see a wonderful old castle.
