Report 1004: Cycling in Belgium and The Netherlands

Castle

We rode along canals, crossed rivers and lakes on ferries and enjoyed the wonderful biking. Every day we would stop along the way in a small, historic town and have time to shop a little, walk around and have a snack. Some of the towns were walled and all were charming. The Dutch people were very nice. One time we stopped so we could see a giant sand dune that is in the middle of the country. There were lots of the old-fashioned windmills everyone loves. Once we stopped to watch and talk to two workmen who were restoring one. They were working on the mechanism that moves the water.

I love thatch-roofed houses and we saw many. Some of the old windmills even had thatched roofs. One day we detoured to see a wonderful old castle.
