> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1004: Cycling in Belgium and The NetherlandsBy Linda Hagstrom from PA, Fall 2005 Page 5 of 7: 's-Hertogenbosch to Vianen
Vianen This day we set out for Vianen. We had pretty good weather, other than the thunderstorm the first evening in Brussels, but this day and the next it drizzled some. We rode anyway and enjoyed it even so. The extent of the bike paths and bike lanes in The Netherlands (and Belgium too) was astounding. It was simply a pleasure to ride without constant worry about cars. The other thing I learned about The Netherlands is the enormous amount of water that is there. Everywhere we saw water, and things done to manage the water - canals, windmills, drawbridges, ferries and locks. It was not unusual to ride beside a canal containing water that was at a higher level than the bike path. Vianen is a gorgeous little historic town, and we had the usual tour and bar stop after dinner.
