> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1004: Cycling in Belgium and The NetherlandsBy Linda Hagstrom from PA, Fall 2005 Page 6 of 7: Vianen to Amsterdam
Waiting for the light to change We were nearing the end of our wonderful week. At the end of the day, in the rain, we rode into and through downtown Amsterdam. Even after all our experience, it was still intimidating for us and it was difficult to keep together. Amsterdam has bike paths everywhere and many, many cyclists - so we had to watch for the other people on bikes. In Amsterdam and elsewhere, there are traffic lights especially for cyclists. We all made it safely to where our barge was moored, on a large body of water right in downtown Amsterdam, about 100 yards from the giant Centraal train station. There were many large ships, ferries, yachts and helicopters to watch from our cozy salon. After dinner, we had our usual walking town tour and Jan showed us the Anne Frank house, other landmarks and the Centraal Station with the trains and bus connections.
