Mike and Maureen, being young and athletic, spent the next two days hiking and swimming along the Cinque Terre. Mom and Dad chose less energetic pursuits. We went into Sarzana for market day and to use the Internet point (Viale Mazzini, #11, just outside the wall). We thought it a bit strange that they charged us €2 extra to use our own computer instead of one of theirs. The total cost for half an hour was €5.

We had lunch at a little place in old Sarzana called La Pia. After a complimentary starter of utterly delicious farinata, hot and crisp and creamy, the pizza we ordered was just okay. Lesson: always stick to the local specialties for the best taste treats.

Megan had recommended a visit to Tellaro, a bit farther down the coast, which we found to be very charming, much like the Cinque Terre, but with far fewer tourists and in much better repair (lacking the Unesco restrictions). We drove from there to Montemarcello, another quiet spot with narrow colorful streets, a pretty little pink church, and views out to the Carrara marble mountains. We got back to Sarzana in time for sunset on the terrace over a glass of prosecco, and a light dinner of an omelet made with eggs from Letizia's chickens.
