Report 1316: European Travel Back When - 1964

Page 8 of 20: Time to Make Some Decisions

It's now Saturday, June 20 and about three weeks since my trip began. So I am working on my itinerary. I will go to Venice next, then Florence, then Rome, where I plan to meet D, my college friend, and her friend S. Greece is finally out, I decide. After Rome, I shall work my way up through Vienna and Germany, Switzerland, Amsterdam (maybe) and then on to Brussels where I will catch the plane home.

I am in quite a good mood. There is very little sun, but I spend the entire afternoon at the beach, after first stopping off at Joan's. Tonight we have dinner at the Restaurant Trianon.

Sunday, nearly my last day in France and I get sunny weather, so I spend the day at the beach. I am now a good healthy color. I splurge for one of the private beaches, which turns out to be quite expensive but comfortable. It's not the entrance fee or the mattress that's expensive, but rather the food!

It's Monday, and my last day at the beach, a nice and sunny one. I check out of my hotel in the morning, and change at Joan's. She and her family are really so nice! I say goodbye, and catch the night train to Milan, where I change for Venice. I am entering Italy quite suntanned!

It's Tuesday morning when I arrive in Venice, and I find a hotel with not too much trouble. I take off and walk to the Piazza San Marco. As I enter it from a side street rather than the canal, I don't get the most spectacular view, but it's still lovely. I meet a French architecture student, Gerald, who is pleasant company but not as sympathique as the friends I have made in France.

My first day in Italy ends, and I am very tired.
