Report 1352: Finland - Mainly Åland

Trip Description: May/June 2004 A return visit to Helsinki, a quick preview (perhaps) of the Lakes and the accomplishment of a wish to see more of Åland.

Sibelius Memorial, Helsinki

In May 2001 Pam and I had a holiday in which we flew to Stockholm and did some sight-seeing there each side of a trip by Viking Line to Turku in Finland and on to Helsinki by train. During our time in Helsinki, we made a day trip to Tallinn in Estonia.

We both fancied seeing more of Helsinki and we were entranced by the Åland Islands, about equidistant from Stockholm and Turku that we passed during the voyage.

Hence our 2004 holiday almost planned itself - except that we inserted a couple of nights in Savonlinna. Whether this was a rapid glimpse of the Lake District or a preview for another trip, I'm not sure. It was meant as the latter but there are so many places to see. . .
