A bridge in Paris
Well, this time I could not start scheduling our family vacation one year in advance for several reasons: mortality in our close family and my husband changing his job twice. There are years like that. After a very hard year, we really needed this vacation to relax.
This time I did all the bookings in April for end of August beginning of September. The accommodation was hard to find as we wanted a central place, close to the beach and to some transportation, and end of August is high season.
Since this time we only had about 17 days to spend, we decided to go to France, as it is more easily accessible from Montreal and reasonable airfares are easy to find. I wanted to spend time in Cassis and Paris, but couldn’t find a centrally located and affordable rental. I found rentals in Antibes and Cannes, however, but was uncomfortable to prepay the owners directly in advance. Some of these places asked a €1000 security deposit which was really ridiculous. No need for an apartment full of easily breakable things, as I wouldn’t be spending my vacation scared not to damage something. Also, these places attract crowds, and staying on a beach in a modern part didn’t feel like something special to us. I found a rental in Ville-Franche-sur-Mer, but it would have been difficult with a toddler climbing steps there.
Finally, after digging on Cassis Tourist Office site, I came across an advertisement for an agency, Coste Location, renting there and they had a two room apartment with a nice sea view. The contact was very easy with them, and since the beginning I felt in Provence. The owners were just so warm and it was a delight to exchange with them. The expressions sounded just delightful in French (pays de Pagnol, Aubagne). They only requested a €300 deposit and the rental price was very reasonable, just fit perfectly with our budget. They also offered a free transfer from the train to the apartment and we had no cleaning to pay at the end, but to clean ourselves. So, I purchased open jaw tickets with AF-KLM, flying into Marseille and out of Paris. Then I could book IDTGV from Marseille to Paris.
