Ismet waits for us to start down the mountain

After breakfast, we went in the van to a small settlement called Bel, to continue our walk along the Lycian Way. We were going to the top of a mountain to start our walk, and the road, unpaved and rocky, was a challenge for Hassan and the van.

We started our walk on a Roman road. About noon, we started descending the sea side of the mountain, beginning on a path but deteriorating to just a rocky, steep hillside. It was a challenge for me to get down this steep and long slope, but we finally made it. We stopped in the middle of our descent to eat our lunches.

Now we were near the sea. We visited the ruined Lycian city of Pydnai and kept walking. Finally we stopped at a pansayone that sat along a wide creek. We had to cross the creek on a rickety home-made bridge to get to the pansayone. We all had drinks there and enjoyed the two family dogs. Then of course we had to walk back over the rickety bridge to get to the van.

Hassan took us to the nearby beach, which was a nice sandy beach, quite deserted. When we went in the water, we noticed the top foot of the water was cold and the bottom water was warm. Could it be because of fresh water coming in nearby? A mystery.
