Page 1 of 9: Thurs May 7th: In Anticipation

We leave tomorrow afternoon for London and Nice via New York. So here is the first icing or premonition depending on how one looks at it. Last night I sent an e-mail to the vacation rental in Catalunya that I booked back in February to remind them of our expected arrival time on Sunday. This morning I got a response from Donny (not Dennis whom I had booked with) saying that there has been some major renovations done at the farm and the two-bedroom apartment has some walls that need painting, that the painter will not paint until a couple of weeks later. So he says, he will waive our balance payment for our stay ... too good to be true? It was a total €280 and I have paid €80 as advance. And by the way, I have booked the one-bedroom so why is he telling me about the two-bedroom. Phoned one number and got Eme’s (she is the one who is supposed to meet us) cousin and then called Dennis’s number and got his Dad. Both were very nice in accented English (sounded like one happy family) but said Dennis and Donny deal with this and everything should be fine. Sent Donny an e-mail and he responded immediately that we were also being upgraded to the two bedroom ... the plot thickens ... but hubby and I decided, what the heck, let us see what happens.

This place is about half and hour from Girona and if we don’t like it we’ll find something in Girona. I checked and between swine flu and off season there is plenty of accommodation available. Stay tuned for the rest of the story... Why do I feel there is more to this than meets the eye? We had a Spanish exchange student stay with us a few years ago who stretched our comfort zone sometimes with his laid back style so we reckon this is just another of those vagaries of the laid back Mediterranean style.
