We flew into Dublin airport and arrived at 10am. We went to the Hertz rental office to pick up our car and there were a lot of people there so by the time we got up to the desk, I think they may have been running out of automatics and family type cars so he asked if it was just the two of us and said, “How would you like a BMW convertible for the same price?” Hell yes! So we got a snazzy little Beemer for our trip, not that there was ever really an opportunity to put the top down with the rain and cold but my husband enjoyed driving it.

We headed off to Dingle on the southwest coast, it took about 4.5 hours and I slept most of the way so didn’t really get to see much. You don’t go through a toll gate, a camera takes a picture of your car and you have until 8pm the next night to pay it. There are designated pay stations around town and you can also pay online, which is what we did. It was €3.00.

When we arrived at Heaton’s Guesthouse, we were greeted by Cameron Heaton with a smile and a handshake. He checked us in to our room, #117, which was very nice and very quiet as requested.

We were hungry so we asked Cameron for some restaurant recommendations and he suggested Out Of The Blue and it was out of this world! The food was a little pricey in Dingle but we always allow extra money for meals because we are serious foodies and we don’t mind paying a little extra for great food. This is an all seafood restaurant, no meat at all and they use a lot of local fish. I had tuna tartar and my husband had oysters on the half shell and for our main course I had grilled monkfish kabobs and my husband had grilled plaice (flounder) and for dessert we had an Irish whiskey and chocolate mousse. One thing we noticed is that the bread and butter don’t have as much salt in them as we put in the States and the desserts weren’t as sweet, you can actually taste the chocolate.

After a meal like that, we decided to take a walk around town and by the way, you can walk from Heaton’s Guesthouse to anywhere in town, it’s reasonably close and gave us a chance to walk off our meals. Dingle is a fishing town so we walked down by the pier and looked at all the commercial fishing boats.
