Report 1722: Short Break in Madrid

Trip Description: 29 September to 3 October 2009 Seeing a lot in Madrid and one day out for a mountain walk.

Why not Madrid? I suppose its an equally valid/invalid question. There's certainly no subtlety to the answer to the original question.

1. In a year in which we had a daughter married we had decided not to have a trip abroad together so I did not want to spend too much. I found an Easyjet flight at sensible times from Liverpool for under £50.00. Then, having Madrid in mind,

2. I realised that I had used it as a transport hub three times, having actually spent a night there once - but I did not know the city at all. In fact Picasso's Guernica was my one sight! Time to remedy that situation.

I was not short of information on travel boards and from friends.

I am not really a city person but I do like to see the main sights. What I mean is that after a relatively short time, I need to escape to the countryside. I had therefore looked up possibilities for a reasonably priced escape.
