Hotel Italia in Cortona
Yesterday Marc and I sold our house. We have a little less than six weeks to find a new house and get moved. Perfect timing for a nine day trip to Italy ... and so the adventure begins.
Our flights were all late, so we didn't arrive in Pisa until 5pm. No luggage for Lisa ... not even a brush. It's still in Paris and should be delivered tomorrow.
We rented a Ford Fiesta in Pisa and began the drive to Cortona. We also had our Garmin GPS, which was a lifesaver on several occasions. We love Jack, the GPS voice. Without him we would never have found Cortona.
We arrived in Cortona at about 11pm. The drive up the narrow, steep winding road was an adventure in itself. This is a hill town, and if you make a driving mistake you fall off that hill! Marc did a really good job driving, but I think I left my hand prints permanently squeezed into the car seat and door.
We found a parking space outside the walls and roamed around a little in the town. We were very tired and must have really looked lost because a nice young guy helped us find Hotel Italia and even helped with my bags.
The man at the hotel was still waiting for us to arrive, even though his closing time was long ago. He checked us in and made sure we were comfortable and then locked the doors and went home. This was the first time I'd stayed in a hotel that actually closed. It was small, basic and the people were very nice. We loved this hotel! The above picture looks crooked, but that's only because I was standing on a very steep street. This really is a hill town!
