I started the day at the outdoor markets which began just across the piazza from the B&B and extended through many streets. There were many stalls with lots of fish and vegetables. I love looking at outdoor markets with their local produce and lovely and unusual seafood.

Then I took a bus to Syracuse, about an hour ride down the coast. I walked to the island of Ortigia, got a map, and walked around the island. The sea was a beautiful turquoise and it was another gorgeous day. I had Sicilian spaghetti with anchovies, mint and almonds for lunch, delicious. I saw the ruins of the Temple of Artemis on Ortigia but I didn't go to the other archaeological sites of Syracuse.
