On the way, we found the Cathedral in the square open and visited that along with a large tour group that had just come in; it was an American tour group that had started out in Dubrovnik and was headed North as we were. One of the tour guides chatted with us and gave us some insights. We later bumped into him and his tour group again in Split! Stari Grad was charming and we did the self walking tour of the old town (there is a free good guide and map from the tourist office next to the free parking lot). We wanted to pick up some bottles of wine to take back with us as gifts and Jelsa was the centre of the Hvar wine route. However when we got there, many of the shops were closed, so we had lunch in Jelsa (Buffet Jesa, Riva bb). After sharing a bottle of wine I suddenly noticed that the characters on the TV playing above the bar were speaking in Hindi ... must be the wine I thought. Turns out, Croatian TV has recently started showing imported Indian soap operas and they were indeed speaking Hindi with subtitles in Croatian! We were back in Hvar Town by evening, after checking out where the ferry terminal in Stari Grad was as we would be taking the car ferry to Split the next morning. We had seen a wine shop in Hvar Town the previous day, so we headed there and picked up Dingaj (from Dubronvik/Ston area) and Zlatan Plavac (from Hvar). Since we had a late lunch, we had a light dinner of Cevapcici sandwich and retired for the night. |
