Page 2 of 13: Day 2 - Touring Around Buda and Pest

Wake-up 7:00, Breakfast 7:30, Depart 8:30

The tour included breakfast each day. This hotel had a nice breakfast with a good assortment of cold cuts, cheeses, breads, jams, hard boiled eggs, coffee, etc. Today was a local sightseeing day. There were only 24 people on the tour and the bus had seating for 52. Therefore, we were able to sit where we wanted.

First, we visited Hero’s Square where the 1956 revolution started. We did a drive through of several of the Pest sights before driving to Buda to see the Buda Castle. After a couple hours in Buda, we went back to Pest at the beginning of the Pedestrian Street. We tipped our local guide and chose to walk back to the hotel as the afternoon was free.

I had a late lunch of pizza and a beer at Fabio’s. Total cost plus tip was 1400 Huf ($7.49).

That night we went to the Zsindely restaurant as recommended by the hotel. It was a real rip off as the cost for the two of us was 18,000 Forint ($96.26).

Tip: Avoid the Zsindely restaurant..

Tip: Take a right out of the hotel and then the next street on the right. Walk two blocks and you will be on Mester St. Mester Street has many reasonably priced restaurants as well as a supermarket. If you take a left out of the hotel and the next left and this will also take you to Mester St near a couple of restaurants. One of the restaurants is Zsindelys and should be avoided as a ripoff. The other restaurant is Fabio’s Pizza. The prices are reasonable and the pizza is good as well. I prefer crispy crust and theirs has a soft crust but thin. Good flavor.
