> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1948: Treasures of the Balkans and TransylvaniaBy e3brown from Colorado, Summer 2011 Page 7 of 13: Day 7 - Church of the Nativity, Rousse, BucharestWake-up 7:30, bags out and breakfast 8:00, depart at 8:45. Stopped at the Church of the Nativity. I was rather “churched out” by this time but the Church of the Nativity seemed special. Next, we were off to Rousse where we had 1 hr 45 minutes to explore, shop and eat. Found a nice restaurant and had an open faced ham and cheese sandwich with a large beer for 9 Lev($6.55). I really enjoyed the way food is presented with style rather than just stacked on your plate. We arrived at the Pullman Bucharest around 4:30. Rooms were nice and very spacious but best of all was the air conditioning worked wonderfully. After checking in, Dave and I went for a walk in the huge park across the street from the hotel. The park surrounds a large lake and it was filled with local folks just enjoying the outdoors. The meal that night was included and it was superb! The best of the trip. We had sautéed vegetables, a cauliflower cheese puff, beef kabobs and fresh rolls. Desert was three small balls of sorbet in a chocolate encrusted waffle shell. Nice, nice job! |
