> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1948: Treasures of the Balkans and TransylvaniaBy e3brown from Colorado, Summer 2011 Page 10 of 13: Day 10 - Bran Castle, Black Church, BrasovAnother great breakfast and then we were off to visit Bran Castle. A lot of people were looking forward to this part of the trip but to me it was the most overly touristy part of the trip. For those that believe the vampire thing, get ready to wake up. Hollywood hyped the vampire myth to great profit both for Hollywood and the entrepreneurs surrounding Bran Castle. It simply can't touch the Rila Monastery or Peles Castle. Later that afternoon we did a walking tour of Brasov including the Black Church. Later Dave and I went to Restaurant Sergiana as recommended by our tour guide and we were pleased with her recommendation. The menu was quite extensive and it took us some time to read through it. While we were perusing the menu, the waiter brought massive amounts of bread and pork cracklings (chicharonnes). We finally decided to try something new and adventurous. We ordered pork swaggers which is the pork version of Rocky Mountain Oysters. They were good but there were so many, we couldn't eat them all. I realize everyone is not ready for the swaggers. There are many many choices on the menu. Great price point also. Highly recommended! |
