This idea for this trip started as a two for one, long haul business class points redemption offer - it is a part of North America I had never been but which my husband had visited both as a penniless student backpacker and much later on business and which he was keen to show me. His only stipulation was that the itinerary had to include the Boeing Factory north of Seattle! It went through several versions in planning (due partly to uncertainty about which daughters would be coming with us – the younger one, in the end.) It wasn’t Slow in the sense of staying anywhere for very long – but it was a relatively small circuit we covered.

We started out in style in the Concorde Lounge for First Class British Airways passengers at Heathrow Terminal 5. (The upgrade, via points, was an unexpected Christmas present). Work still seems slow on upgrading much of the rest of Heathrow, but Terminal 5 works very well indeed – even if you are not (and I am usually very definitely not!) in the comfortable surroundings of this lounge. It was nice, but not significantly nicer than the normal First lounge (which is mostly populated by Gold Card members, whatever their cabin class).

The 10 hour journey was fine – comfortable beds, with fluffy duvets and very attentive staff. Our arrival at Vancouver International Airport was smooth, slightly delayed by us choosing the immigration line with a complicated and dubious case right in front of us. My husband (Mr Loyalty Programme Points) had booked us into the Hampton Inn & Suites in several of our locations and the first of these was the one located on Robson Street in downtown Vancouver. It is a practical hotel, rather than lovely, but the one-bedroom king suite (with a pull out in the lounge for my daughter) was a good size for our party of three. After a brief look around the hotel and unpacking, it was time for bed.
