Page 3 of 12: Day 3 Granville Island

The next day, we only got slightly lost walking down to the path alongside False Creek to catch the aquabus water taxi over to Granville Island. It was a pretty little ride, with a running commentary by the lively young driver, over to the buzzing market and shopping area, amongst former industrial units (with some industry still in place). The market is a mix of fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, bakery stands and craft stalls. I spotted the perfect gift for my friend who collects ladybirds (ladybugs) - a little ceramic one, easy to transport.

After walking through all the shops, we went back to the market and bought a selection of baked goods and fruit for lunch. We took another company’s water taxi back to a stop near the hotel (with an equally enthusiastic female driver) and took a walk further along the False Creek pathway - unfortunately cutting ourselves off from where we really wanted to go because of all the construction work taking place at and around the stadium. After a less than picturesque, dusty route, we arrived back at the hotel ready to fall upon our lunch. Following a few hours rest, we dressed and set off to the bar and dining area of the Yaletown district, around Hamilton Street, in search of dinner, finally settling on a restaurant where we could take advantage of the evening sun by sitting outside. We all ate fish – salmon, halibut and a shrimp risotto, accompanied by some local wine.
