> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1960: Walking in the Dubrovnik Area with RamblersBy Linda Hagstrom from Pennsylvania, Spring 2011 Page 5 of 9: April 14:,Thursday: A Lovely Long WalkI take a short rest on the path down the hill to Dubrovnik We walked down to the harbor and spent some time looking around the fish market, something I enjoy doing. Then we climbed steps to a road high above the harbor. From here there was a great view of the area, the sea and the islands. We walked along an aqueduct built in the 1500s to the head of a fjord. Jenny gave instructions to the rest of the group how to walk back down and get a bus to the old town of Dubrovnik. Clair, Barry and I decided to continue on with Jenny for a walk of about 11 miles into the hills behind Dubrovnik. The four of us walked along an unused railroad track to a church at the very top of one of the hills, where we paused for lunch on the church patio. We walked through the hills on a very rural and interesting track, with people beginning to sow their gardens, and houses, fields, and animals. We climbed to the high hill above the coast and just above Dubrovnik. From here we walked down many steps to the old town, and from there I took the bus to the hotel. |
