> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 1960: Walking in the Dubrovnik Area with RamblersBy Linda Hagstrom from Pennsylvania, Spring 2011 Page 7 of 9: April 16, Saturday: KorculaOur group enjoying the view from Korcula We took the public bus to Old Dubrovnik and visited an old church outside the walls. Inside the old town, at the harbor, we took a ferry to the island of Korcula, a large island just opposite Old Dubrovnik. This was the first day of the new summer season that people were allowed to go to Korcula, a national park that is closed in winter. We walked around with Jenny for a while, seeing the peacocks, the old fort, salt pans, the 'inland sea', the botanical garden, and a ruined monastery. Then we had a hour or so to look around on our own. We took the ferry back, had lunch in town at a restaurant, and took a public bus which climbed high up the mountain just behind Dubrovnik. When we got out, we walked up some more to the top of the mountain, 412 meters (maybe not a real mountain). A cable car runs from Dubrovnik to the top of the mountain, and I took the cable car back down to the old town. Everyone else walked, and they were down soon after I was. |
