Page 1 of 9: Independent or Group?

I much prefer independent travel, while Bob likes a package tour. So we compromised. The first nine days we were on our own in Poland, then we joined a group for the three Baltic countries plus St. Petersburg.

We've become fond of apartment living on trips, and have used many times (Vacation Rentals by Owner.) Our first stop was Krakow, and I found several possibilities near the Old Town. We settled on one, just outside the "Planty", on Krowoderska 6, owned by Caspar Peak who lives in New York and speaks about 10 languages. He charged us 100 a night for a two bedroom apartment, which seemed pretty reasonable, and the reviews were good.

We loved the apartment! It was in an old building with very high ceilings and an entrance that seemed right out of a 1930's black and white movie, with marble floors and echoey sound reverb. The kitchen was very modern. No air conditioning, but we didn't really need it. It was quiet and comfortable and, like many apartments, had a washing machine! I do get sick of hand washing on trips. The living room had a sofa for each of us, plus our favorite IKEA chair! I could live for months in this place. Maybe years.
