Report 2001: My Non Vacation in Antigua

Half way through my vacation week and I’m bedridden. Feeling even worse today with the chills, I sweated under the covers. By noon I knew I needed a doctor, I was getting no better. James called the front desk and requested a doctor. Thankfully they have one on call and he was there in an hour. He checked me out and again thankfully he had the prescriptions with him. I couldn’t imagine getting out of the bungalow for any reason and couldn’t imagine James trying to finagle his way around the island to a pharmacist. Dr. Williams left my prescriptions and I paid him in cash and he left my receipt. The front desk had informed me initially that the doctor’s visit would be $180 cash, more for prescriptions. My bill was $210 and for the convenience and the chance for a quick recovery it was well worth the price. By the evening my throat started feeling better. At this point I was no longer concerned with my itinerary plans, I realized that this vacation was a total bust. My concern was to now concentrate on getting well enough for the long, hectic return trip home...
