We drove along the causeway that is the entrance to Cadiz. The long beaches, very blue Atlantic and equally blue sky, were our welcome to this city. We got a hotel in the newer, high rise section - and glad of it - beds were at a premium. This was the week of the celebration, "Bi-Centennial of the First Constitution."

All city buses that day were free, so we headed into the old center. The streets were jammed with people, some in costume of the early 1800's. We strolled along the periphery of the city, a succession of linear parks. We also went into the maze of old city streets, visited some museums and even more bars. At any plaza we happened upon, there was either music, dance or a performance in session. We had arrived in Cadiz, rather unaware of the festivities and without a plan so we just joined the general swirl of things but it was a little overwhelming. We took the free bus back to our hotel with the idea of a rest and return to the city for the night time entertainment that was going to happen. But after an unremarkable dinner, we were too exhausted to make the trip back.

My impression of Cadiz: I would love to return, and visit in a period sin fiesta in order to explore the city at ease and repeat strolls in the many seaside parks.
