Azay-le-Rideau

Next morning we wanted to visit some castles, but the campsite owner warned us all roads along Loire were closed for a bicycle day. He explained where we could cross, but this wouldn’t allow us to visit what we wanted, so we just drove to Montreuil Bellay for a visit of the castle and for lunch. We visited the castle from the outside, but didn’t think it worth spending €9 per person to visit the inside. In any case, they closed the castle as there was television filming a show from there. We just sat in front of the castle in a Brasserie for a nice and pleasant lunch.

Next day the weather was cloudy with some rain expected, so we went to visit Azay le Rideau castle early and were lucky to get some sun for the pictures, We then stopped at Usse for pictures, and then continued to Langeais for lunch and visit of the castle. We had a very nice lunch at Le coin des Halles restaurant, and then proceeded to the castle. The castle was fun to visit and there were groups of kids. At the end there is a playground where kids could climb a behind a wall, and cabanne in the trees high for the views, for everyone. The garden itself was pleasant to walk. Our son still remembers Langeais.

After buying delicious baguettes and a tartelette we returned to our campsite, where our son was impatient to meet with his friend and they played together until late.

I have to say our GPS was once more aware of all roads even with no asphalt and brought us at times to really funny places. But the roses and poppies were spectacular in the fields. When we felt like the road was too small we just ignored it until we met a bigger road. Another funny thing was some of the signs. For example instead of saying “other directions” after enumerating a couple of cities, something like “everybody” was written on some of the arrows in the roundabouts.
