Breakfast room at our hotel-castle d'Avanton

We drove to our overnight stay at le Chateau d’Avanton. When we arrived I walked to the chateau which was small but beautiful. There is no real reception. The owners live there. So I had to ring and walk up as indicated. However nobody showed up.

As I walked back to our car a man and his daughter came out of a separate building, which was part of the domain. He tried to help with my questions. Finally when I was about to call on the cell, he saw the owners’ son with his fiancé coming back from the pool. They brought me with them and called the father. He was delightful and had me visit our room, which in fact was a suite with a big kitchen and a big bathroom. He also showed me the breakfast room which was spectacular with extremely high ceilings and windows and all antique castle furniture and tapestry. A big wow. The room even had a tea pot with cups which was Limoges porcelain. It was very big and had a double bed and extra bed requested and plenty of room, with a big table and chairs and a coffee table and big antique chairs that our son particularly loved, and huge wardrobe. The kitchen was well equipped and even had a dish washer. We could have our dinner in the kitchen; there were a table with chairs. We bought our groceries from a supermarket where we also purchased gasoil.

There is also a swimming pool that is covered when the weather is bad and so it keeps its temperature.

The next morning and after a fabulous included buffet breakfast, we continued our way to the Dordogne. Since we didn’t have that much to drive there we decided to visit and have lunch at Collonges la Rouge.
