> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 2038: Peru with KidsBy ktp from California, Fall 2012 Page 4 of 14: Lima City TourIn Barranco It takes a long time to get around Lima (49 districts and 9 million people). It's sort of like Los Angeles if it was the Wild West. The coastline along Miraflores is lovely with some nice seaside parks and perfect little waves rolling in. Barranco is colorful and quaint. Chorrillos is sunnier (Lima is usually cloudy) and claims the giant cross and "Christ of the Pacific" on a hill top overlooking both the most exclusive private club in Lima as well as slums known as "pueblo jovenes." The colonial center is charming. We especially liked the church (don't miss The Last Supper with cuy), creepy catacombs, and library straight out of Harry Potter at Iglesia de San Francisco. Look out for churros hot out of the oven. |
