Dwellings along the Pan American Highway between Lima and Ica

After flying back to Lima and spending a fun evening grilling on The House Project's terrace, we took a Cruz del Sur bus from the station in La Victoria to Ica.

The 4.5 hour bus ride provided a look at living conditions along the Pan American Highway. Cement, adobe or grass shacks with seemingly no utilities sat amongst sand dunes with no vegetation.

The bus played a couple movies (one not suited for children and one that was!) and funny covered songs in English by the likes of Richard Cheese (our daughter did not appreciate his rendition of "Beat It").

When we arrived in Ica you could see the intense damage of the 8.0 2007 earthquake. Much has not been rebuilt. Mozes from Villa Jazmin picked us up and took us back to his oasis in the desert.
