Page 11 of 12: Stormy Weather

After a very stormy night, laying in the large and comfortable bed being thankful we were not out on the ocean, we awoke to see bands of rain sweeping across the bay. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and pottering morning then, as the rain eased off, took a drive east along the bay and down onto the Stanfordís Bay peninsula. Not really the best decision, as the rain soon came back with a vengeance, making driving visibility quite difficult on what was, fortunately, a virtually deserted road. We reached the rather bleak town of Gansbraii, known for its shark diving cage companies (not for us!) and large abalone shellfish farm and processing plants. Most of the produce goes straight to the Far East, where it is a prized delicacy.

After a very windy and rain-lashed drive back towards Hermanus we continued on to the town to find a very late lunch and soon warmed up in the restaurant of the Burgundy Hotel.
