The ray we saw while snorkeling

We snorkeled three mornings on Smiths Reef. We saw lovely coral and beautiful fish there. On two days we saw rays of some kind. They were beautiful and so thrilling to see in the wild. One swam along just below us. They are really big! Another day, from the beach we saw a ray glide through the water. We saw many other fish we couldn't identify.

Another day we went on a half-day snorkel boat trip with Deep Blue, a company that had been recommended by the people at the car rental agency. The five of us were joined by four other passengers and the boat crew of two. They took us first to the 'wall', the reef which surrounds the island and drops off 1,000 feet. It was too murky there so we went to a shallow reef off George Cay and everyone got to get in the water. One of the crew came in the water with us and showed us a barracuda. We went on to another good location, then to a deserted island where we got off the boat and they served some fruit and snacks. They pointed out nearby Parrot Cay and named some famous people who have homes there. We went back out to the big reef and a few of us got in the water to see what the drop-off looked like. It was a good morning.
