Eating out

Food, at the grocery store or in restaurants, costs about twice as much as eating in the US. It is easy to see why. The island is small and sandy and I did not see anything being grown to eat. Almost everything comes by sea or by air. There was an IGA supermarket close to our house that had much the same food you get in the US.

We ate out on four evenings, twice at hotels that had outdoor dining close to the sea. The view was of Grace Bay and the location and food were great. On our last night we ate at Baci, a restaurant on the Turtle Bay marina. We had wonderful pizza there and they had other Italian specialties. We had an outside table, right on the marina. Dave had chosen and made reservations at all the restaurants months earlier.

One other notable meal was lunch at The Conch Shack, where we ate at a picnic table on the beach. We had a very relaxed lunch there after a morning of snorkeling. It was delightful. Naturally, the menu featured conch, and a man was cracking them on the beach. They also had fish and a few other choices. Local people had a table to sell their crafts. A man went into the sea and brought out a conch shell which contained an octopus. He put the octopus on the beach and most of the diners gathered around to see the octopus.
