It was back to the joys of slow travel for the third of our three weeks in France. (See Web Resources for Part 1 and Part 2.)

We hadn't been to Europe since 2010, because we were immersed in moving from the Boston area to California. Everything involved in relocation, resettling, and remodeling kept us and the bank account too overstressed to plan a major trip during that time.

But on that 2010 trip, we were already thinking ahead to our 50th anniversary coming up in three years. We had hoped to put together a big family celebration, and thought the Dordogne would be a perfect spot. We were staying nearby in the Lot during that 2010 trip and spent a little time scouting possible venues for a 2013 gathering. We found what looked like a perfect house just outside the beautiful village of Monpazier, and decided to take the plunge and book it for the two weeks straddling our anniversary date.

Unfortunately, as time went by, part of our family found themselves unable to commit to the trip. So it ended up with just one son and his wife, plus the two of us, in a villa that would have housed 10 people. But it was such a beautiful house, in a gorgeous location, and we had already paid enough nonrefundable deposit to cover half a week's rental. So we decided to cut our stay there to one week and go ahead with at least half of the original plan. Here's how we spent that week.
