> SlowTrav > Trip Reports Report 472: Back to Uni to Learn Italian - A Month in PerugiaBy Pamela R from Sydney, Australia, Fall 1998 Page 9 of 31: Wednesday 9th SeptemberThe traffic noise outside our apartment and the hot weather had made sleeping difficult, and again we awoke tired. Today was the day that young Pamela (Due) decided to drop back to Primo Grado. She wasn’t about to be swayed from her decision which she was convinced was the right one for her. The remaining three were accepting though very disappointed, but still keen to persevere with the challenge in the belief that a breakthrough was happening. After classes, a trip to the laundrette, and some shopping, we returned for lunch at home and a rest. However, Suzanna and Maureen lobbed in for a bit of a study session with Pamela before their afternoon class, putting paid to the planned rest. For dinner tonight Pamela cooked risotto with several different types of funghi, but stirring it for half an hour in a ‘cupboard’ on a hot night is not really to be recommended. In this kitchen, we probably wouldn’t be having risotto again! While relaxing after dinner we heard our names called and there, in the lane outside our window, were Suzanna and Joananne returning in high spirits from an evening out. They came in to talk about their escapade, which involved meeting and drinking with three charming Italians on the Corso Vannucci (one of whom – an artist – Suzanna had made plans to see again!). They helped us finish a magnum of wine and left at about 1.15. As it was so hot we slept with the window open again, but it was definitely a mistake as the noise was intolerable. |
