Page 1 of 16: Let's Go Back to Italy!

We lived just outside Brussels, Belgium for just over 3 years on an overseas assignment for my husband Rex's company. We had a tremendous experience living there and took advantage of living in Europe by travelling whenever possible. Our children, Stephanie and Alex, were young when we moved to Belgium (ages 5 and 1, respectively). She remembers more about places we visited than he does (although how many kids start a new U.S. preschool asking another child if he's been to the Eiffel Tower?). We loved Italy! We had spent one week in Rome, one week in Tuscany, a long weekend in Florence, and a long weekend in Venice. Rex and I always said that we would go back someday.

During the summer of 2003, some friends (who we met in Belgium and who now live near us) asked if we'd be interested in sharing a villa in Tuscany in 2004. Absolutely! We put together a list of possible villamates and started asking who wanted to join us. The cast of characters is as follows: Rex, Sandra, Stephanie, and Alex; Gene and Janette; Janette's sister Beth (all of us from the Chicago area); Janette's brother John and his wife Maria from Southern California; and Bruce and Sandy, now living in Geneva, Switzerland but who we met in Belgium and also lived near us for a few years. Rex, Janette, and Bruce were workmates in Belgium. Gene was in charge of looking for villas and used TuscanyNow which we also used in the past for rentals. We settled for the week of July 17-23, found a place big enough to accomodate all 11 of us, and made various plans to bookend our week together. Buon Viaggio!
