After planning for 2 years and using the Slow Travel website as a primary planning resource my wife and I were totally excited for our first trip to Italy. Air France flight from SFO to CDG left on time at 4pm on Saturday. 9 hours later we reached CDG around 10am on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kind of confusing but we eventually found our way from the arrival terminal to the departure terminal. No hurry, we had over 4 hours to spare. The Air France flight from CDG to Rome was about two hours and we arrived in Rome about 6:30pm. Had prearranged a pickup with ROMA SHUTTLE and they were there waiting for us with our name on a sign. It was raining but the the Mercedes van was almost new and we arrived at PENSIONE PANDA near the Spanish Steps in about a half hour. We'd forgotten our umbrellas so as soon as we stopped in front of the hotel the driver called a street vendor over and we bought a large umbrella for 10 Euro.

The streets were pretty quiet due to the rain but we made our way up a flight of stairs to the check in. The man at the desk was indifferent. Not rude but not overly enthusiastic. The place looked clean though and that's what was important to us. He checked us into our small double room without bath and we'd stay for 3 nights at 68 Euro per night. Our cheapest hotel of the whole trip. The room was definitely small. A double bed a closet and a recently remodeled sink area. It would be fine.

We went around the corner to a Pizza place and ordered two pies a salad and some house wine. Everything was great but the place was a little odd. If we'd been able to eat outside it would have been better but alas the rain.

Back up to the room for a great night's sleep.
