Beautiful Trenton Falls

April 15 - Friday is busy for me in the morning, so the Fukuda’s decide to go fishing in one of our ponds (we have bass and trout) and Mr. Fukuda actually catches a good size trout! They decide to spend the day relaxing and taking a tour of our 80 acre property. We have the fish farm and are dabbling in hydroponics in our greenhouse and besides the two ponds, our property has a running stream and both a pine and deciduous forest. They plan their dinner of trout and more steak!

April 16 - We decided to go to Trenton Falls on Saturday morning. Leaving about 7 AM, my husband and I go to the early morning Mass in Utica, while the Fukuda’s and our friend who has joined our traveling group, walk around the downtown area. We then drive north to Trenton Falls, which is owned by the electric company. It is only open to the public four weekends a year, twice in the spring and twice in the fall. The path follows alongside the spectacular series of falls and luckily, we get there before the crowd. After our leisurely hike, we enjoy the lunch I packed at the picnic tables near the entrance and continue our drive into the Adirondack Mountains.

Although we knew they were close by, we had never taken the opportunity to see this mountain chain and we were surprised to find that we could reach the popular Old Forge area in less than an hour from Utica. The lake there is small, but beautiful. It is off-season, so unfortunately not very much is open, but they have what looks like a great water park there and we are able to stop at the Webb Historical Association Museum which gives us an absolutely delightful look at some of the fixtures, tools, furnishings and history of the area. They even have a little jail! This town is also one of the major stops on the Adirondack Railroad line. We comment on how beautiful the scenery must be in the fall. We drive up a little farther to enjoy the forest and lake views and then after a quick stop for ice cream, drive home in time for dinner.
